Introduction:

My name is Leonard A. Sipes, Jr. I have 30 years experience in public relations, social media and emergency management in government at the national and state levels. I am currently the senior public affairs specialist and social media manager for a government agency in Washington, D.C.

I’m offering my services for free to government, asociations and non-profit agencies to help them engage in social media or proactive public relations efforts.  I have assisted a wide variety of  agencies starting or refining their social media strategies. A resume is available upon request.

Background:

See “About” section on this site (in banner at top).

Please use the search engine of your choice and search for “leonard sipes” and “len sipes” for samples of my work. If you use advanced search, eliminate “Tommy Collins,” a recording artist whose real name was Leonard Sipes.

Social Media:

Social media is the process of placing interesting materials on a website and interacting with the media and public.  It employs the same principles successfully used by major corporations.

I’ve been engaged in social media efforts for 16 years. I was one of the first to place radio programs on the Internet and interact with customers. I was one of the first federal agencies to engage in social media.

I hosted radio and television programs for government agencies for close to twenty years.

Benefits of Social Media:

Agencies accomplish an array of objectives through social media. Agencies can significantly improve their ability to have  meaningful conversations with the public through websites, audio, video and blogs.

I believe that social media and proactive public relations efforts improve an agency’s reputation with the media and public; these efforts prompt an exchange of information that benefits all.

What Agencies Must Agree to Do:

Agencies must agree to learn the process of developing WordPress based websites. This will be a self-taught endeavor with my assistance.

Agencies  must agree to maintain their website and actively agree to post blogs, audio or video programs and engage in constructive conversations with the public.

What I Can Do:

In most cases, my involvement is limited to telephone conversations clarifying social media, resources and proactive efforts.  Quite simply, I can cut through the clutter of social media.

More meaningful involvement requires permission of my agency and could range from WordPress-based website creation to SEO (search engine optimization) to creation/review of materials to guidance in audio and video production and public relations efforts.

My availability for substantial involvement depends entirely on prior commitments and the permission of my agency (which requires several weeks to clear).

For agencies with security needs, I am qualified for a top-secret clearance.
